Welcome Home a Hero
Every day of the year, a plane full of roughly 150 troops arrives at DFW Airport. These troops have been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan and are hitting American soil for the first time for two weeks of R&R. You can call 972.574.0392 the night before the flight to get information about the arrival time and location. Groups larger than 100 people should be scheduled by calling 972.948.7059. Come help us shake their hands and welcome them home! Get more information.
Thank Departing Troops
After two weeks of R&R, troops leave DFW to return to the Middle East. Individuals and groups are welcome to come thank them as they leave. For more information, contact Meagan Bergeron.
Become a Volunteer
Regularly scheduled volunteers serve a minimum of 16 hours a month in our USO center, our United Through Reading Room, our administrative offices, Operation Send-off, and assist with stocking. For more information contact Lynne Scharf.
Hold a Supply Drive
The USO has a list of ongoing needs, which includes things like travel sized toiletries (shaving cream, deodorant, and toothpaste are the hot ticket items) beef jerky, and chocolate bars. Our complete Needs List can be found here. Please contact Aneisa Watson to schedule all donation drop-offs.
Hold a Children’s Book Drive
While departing troops are waiting for their flight back to the Middle East, they are encouraged to visit our United Through Reading Room. The room is a library of children’s books, and the troops select a book for each of their children. USO Volunteers record the troops reading the books and when they are finished the DVD and book are shipped home to the children. Kids love this opportunity to see and hear their parent’s voice and read the book along with them.
We can only use new books- we want the best for the soldier's kids! For more information on this project, contact Linda Robinson.
Host a Luncheon
Feed a plane full of hungry troops before they depart to the Middle East! We have a list of recommended caterers who will provide sandwich lunches, pizza, or barbeque. Don’t have the budget for a luncheon? Treats like cupcakes and cookies are a hit, too (everything must be store-bought). For more information on hosting a luncheon, contact Meagan Bergeron.
Give a Financial Contribution
The USO at Dallas/Fort Worth depends on the generosity of the North Texas community to continue to provide superior service to our service men and women.
