The USO is a private, non-profit organization whose mission is to support the troops by providing morale, welfare, and recreation-type services to our men and women in uniform. The original intent of Congress — and enduring style of USO delivery — is to represent the American people by extending a touch of home to the military.
In August 2001, the USO opened its doors on the largest military installation in the world, Fort Hood. This was the first USO Center located on a military installation in the United States.
In November 2006, USO Fort Hood moved into an original 1941 WW II barracks building. USO Fort Hood is a 4,400 sq. ft. interpretive center. The main floor holds historical artifacts of Pre-Historic Central Texas. It also contains pictures and memorabilia from the inception of Camp Hood in 1942 depicting its evolution into the present Fort Hood. Also located on the main floor is a Foosball table, and reading/lounge area. The center is WiFi accessible and computers are located throughout the facility. The upper floor contains a 16-seat theater complete with a commercial popcorn machine. Also included is an arcade, a snack bar, 16 computers, and two X-Box 360 rooms.
USO Fort Hood is located in the heart of "The Great Place" and continues to deliver programs and services to the more then 40,000 service members and their families offering programs such as United Through Reading, Operation Care Package, Operation Phone Home and Operation Enduring Care.
