Germany is known for its festivals—beer fests, wine fests, strawberry fests, and even asparagus fests. Now we have found a town that has a pumpkin fest. Townspeople decorate the streets and their homes with pumpkins and pumpkin paraphernalia, but moreover, the restaurant owners revise their menus to include specialties and delicacies made from pumpkin. The little town of Hirschhorn will be especially bustling this Sunday—stores will be open and there will be a flea market to peruse. You can walk up the hill to the beautiful castle situated above the town and enjoy some of the pumpkin specialties prepared by the castle chef. On our train ride back to Kaiserslautern, we’ll stop at Heidelberg for a visit of its old town. Bring euro for shopping and lunch. Group size is limited so sign up early.
