The USO-Travis is a working center (no dances, no shows) . Our family lounge provides a haven for families traveling with small children. We have a kitchen with a donated washer/dryer, refrigerator and microwave oven. The crib room has seven cribs, a "squeaking" rocking chair and we furnish formula, food, diapers and supplies for the babies if needed.

The adult lounge is a quiet place to sit, drink coffee, watch TV and relax from the pressures of military travel. The USO-Travis is not funded by Local, County, State or Federal agencies. It is through the interest of the public that we can accomplish our mission of serving the military members and their families away from home. Won't you take a moment now to show your sponsorship with a contribution to the USO-Travis.For your information this is our once-a-year solicitation to our community.

travis_main.jpgThank you for your support. The USO is located in the  Terminal Building on the flight line. Please feel free to stop in and have a cup of coffee with the troops. The family center is available to families 24 hour everyday, and the adjoining adult center is open from 0830 to 2100 everyday. Security works closely with the USO during evening hours to be sure only families are using the family facilities.

Our History

travis_desk.jpgOn May 23. 1984 the USO Travis formally opened its doors in the Passenger Terminal Building on Travis Air Force Base.  California . Thus began the pilot program for establishing non-profit USO Centers on stateside military bases. These Centers would rely totally on the generosity of the community and volunteers to exist.

Prior to the Center opening the Military Airlift Command (MAC) was having difficulties in manning the family lounge in the Travis Air Terminal. The Command approached several service agencies. andthe USO responded with a resounding "YES! And when can we move in! The early models of USO Centers always had a pool table and, if possible, ping pong tables. Here the reception desk was established and the pool table moved in.

After several serious bumps and knocks to the heads and faces of visitors and volunteers from the player's cues, the table was removed and a large TV placed in that small area. We also have available a fax machine, copy machine, computer, and the coffeepot is always on.

The USO provides a Crib Room with squeaking rocking chair for the babies. Next to the Crib Room is a seating/play area with a large play pen, plenty of toys, and a TV set. A small kitchen with microwave oven, washer & dryer, and a refrigerator is to the rear of the Center.

Over the years our volunteers have served many thousands of military, civilians, and their families at Travis, and to each of them the USO has been a "Home Away from Home" no matter where home might be. The USO received a Congressional Charter when it was founded during WW n and that proud heritage is carried on today wherever you see the red, white, & blue USO sign.
