The USO Rhein-Main Area publishes a Bi-monthly magazine "Eine Bruecke" designed to be an "information bridge" between the U.S. military and German civilian communities located in the greater Rhein-Main area (Frankfurt, Wiesbaden, Mainz, and outlying areas). It has a circulation of 10,000 and an estimated readership of 40,000. While the target audience is primarily the U.S. military community, many other Americans living and working in Germany read it. Companies advertising in our magazine help support the USO and make possible our programs to benefit United States Servicemembers stationed in Germany. It truly helps promote German-American friendship and is an excellent and cost-effective way to reach the American community in the Rhein-Main area with your advertising message. Technical Information for Advertising
The Eine Bruecke Magazine has improved its production techniques and capabilities. We are now producing Eine Bruecke on a MacIntosh computer. We find that this gives us much better file compatibility at our commercial printer, and therefore a better quality magazine as an advertising vehicle for your business.
We can still accept many file formats from PC computers, but ask your help in providing us ad material that will provide the best possible quality. If you need help or have questions, please feel free to ask us.
Ad submission formats:
Please do not provide press films or paper printouts for actual production. We use an all-digital workflow as digital files produce better quality. We would however appreciate receiving a printout as a visual guide to make sure that your ad appears as intended. We can accept your ads as computer files, sent via e-mail, or the following computer disk formats:
DVD RAM disks
1.44 MB floppy disks
We use the following MacIntosh software to produce the Eine Br cke and can accept files in the following formats:
Quark Xpress 4.04 (for page layout)
Adobe InDesign 1.0 (for page layout)
Adobe Photoshop 5.5 (for pixel-based graphics & photos)
Adobe Illustrator 8.0 (for vector-based graphics)
Adobe PageMaker 6.52 (or earlier)
Corel Draw 8.0 (or earlier)
Corel Photo Paint 8.0 (or earlier)
MetaCreations Painter 6 (or earlier)
For best quality results, please provide "open" files in Quark Xpress, InDesign, Illustrator, etc. with all the linked files (pictures, graphics, fonts) included. If you do not provide open files as a matter of policy save your file as an EPS or PDF file. Please ensure all files and fonts are embedded color in the CMYK color space, and files are of a proper resolution for offset printing (300 dpi). DO NOT provide PDF s saved for online viewing (72 dpi). We are not responsible for your typographical errors. If you provide "open" files, we have the possibility of making corrections (after talking with you). If you provide "closed" files and errors are discovered you must provide a corrected version of the ad otherwies we will run it with the errors. Press deadlines will not be missed waiting for corrected errors in closed files. Please do NOT provide finished ad files created in:
Word processing programs such as Word, Word Perfect, etc.
Presentation programs such as PowerPoint
Web-authoring programs such as Front Page, PageMill, etc.
Consumer level publishing programs such as Publisher
Spreadsheet programs such as Excel (don t laugh, it happens)
Non-standard graphics programs such as Deneba Canvas
You will get a better quality ad if you use software designed for professional publishing. If you don t have access to this kind of software, we will be glad to assist you in producing your ad. If you have questions, please call us.
The best quality will be the above type of file delivered to us on a computer disk. If you MUST use digital transmission or e-mail we can give you two options:
Direct transmission (for larger files, produced as described above):

If your ad size is reasonably small, you can send it as an EPS file. Larger files can be converted to a picture (CMYK) at 300 dpi and saved in JPEG format with a quality range between 8 and 10 (in Photoshop). E-mail as an attached file to Tony Carter at this address: firstname.lastname@example.org

Image resolution (for linked photos and other pixel-based graphics):
Images of 300 dpi are required for good printing. Do NOT provide images downloaded from websites (i.e. at online resolutions).
For best results include your logo as a vector graphic. If you have a pixel-based logo, we need a clean, high-resolution version of it (300 dpi minimum higher is better).
We use PostScript (Type 1) fonts. If you must use TrueType, we have a good selection of Corel TrueType. Multiple Master fonts have been known to cause printing problems. If you are unsure about your fonts, convert your fonts to outlines and save as an EPS file. Be sure to include any font files used in your ad with the ad.
Linked color photos & graphics:
We use the Euro standard for offset printing on white, colored paper. If you are using a PC without color management to produce your ad and are concerned about accurate color separations, you may leave your linked images in the RGB color space and our printer will make the color conversion to CMYK.
Spot colors and corporate identity:
We do not normally offer spot colors. Your ad will be printed in the best possible CMYK approximation of your color but it won t be exact. If you absolutely MUST have a specific spot color for corporate identity purposes, there will be an extra charge (quoted on request) over and above the amount of your ad contract price. We do not at this time offer hexachrome printing.
Use of copyrighted materials:
You are responsible to get permission to use copyrighted materials (photos, logos and trademarks from other firms or organizations, graphic elements, quoted text, etc.) in your ad. We reserve the right to require from you a copy of your written permission to use an image or logo before running your ad. In any case, we will not knowingly infringe a copyright or trademark. If your ad causes legal action, then you alone are responsible for the consequences.
