USO Sasebo is located in two facilities on Fleet Activities Sasebo installation. We are located in Sasebo City on the island of Kyushu about one hour’s drive away from Nagasaki. Sasebo is one of the best kept “little secrets” in the military.
The Sasebo USO was established in 1994 as a relocation site after closure of the USO in the Philippines as result of the volcano eruption there. The USO and US Navy agreed to locate a USO facility here and a local Council was organized. Through the generous donations of the local community a facility was constructed at Nimitz Park (Navy property outside of the main compound) and turned over to the US Navy. The USO provided home away from home services to both the sailors on board home ported ships as well as the shore based individuals and family members. The USO, through its local Council, established excellent community relations and continues to be a key link in dealings with the City of Sasebo.
